COMBINING
ADDRESS BOOKS
|
|
If
you have an older book from a previous version of Messenger
or another e-mail client such as Outlook Express or
Eudora, you can easily and quickly move its entries
to your personal address book using the improved import
tool. When you import another address book and add it
to your own, Messenger does not overwrite entries in
your address book. It simply adds the new entries.
-
Open
the Address Book window by clicking the Address
Book icon on the component bar, or choose Address
Book from the Communicator menu.
-
From
the File menu, select Import. The Messenger Import
Utility will appear.
-
Choose
the type of file you want to import. In addition
to comma-delimited, tab-delimited, or .Idif address
book file formats, you can also choose to import
mail messages.
-
Follow
the instructions in the utility to add address book
entries to your Messenger address book.

USING
PINPOINT ADDRESSING
|
|
Can’t
remember your friend’s e-mail address and don’t have
time to look it up in the Address Book?
You
can quickly address a message simply by typing the recipient’s
name. Messenger will complete it for you automatically
or show you a list of possible matches from your personal
Address Book.
Here’s how you add it:
-
From
the Edit menu, select Preferences.
-
Select
the Mail & Newsgroups category, and after that
the Addressing category. The Preferences dialog
box will change to reflect your choice. You will
see the Addressing Preferences dialog box.
-
To
auto-complete addresses using names from your address
books, select the Pinpoint Addressing checkbox.
If you want Messenger also to search a directory
server, select this checkbox and then select the
directory server of your choice from the drop-down
menu. When multiple addresses are found, to display
a list of choices or to accept the address as you
have typed it, select that radio button.
-
When
you’re finished, click OK to close the Preferences
dialog box and return to the Messenger window.
Now
that you know how to use Pinpoint Addressing, here is
how you can actually use it:
-
From
Messenger’s File menu, select New>Message, for
the Send Mail window.
-
Type
the first few letters of the recipient’s name and
wait for Messenger to complete the address, or type
the name and press Enter to have Messenger guess
the address. If more than one match is found, a
dialog box listing your choices will appear. You
can use the address you want.
